Το έργο Home/Office Continuum, που ανέλαβε το αρχιτεκτονικό γραφείο Nefelia Studio στα Εξάρχεια της Αθήνας, ξεκίνησε ως ανακαίνιση ενός πρώην αρχιτεκτονικού γραφείου—ενός χώρου με ισχυρή λειτουργική βάση αλλά χωρίς ιδιαίτερο χαρακτήρα—και εξελίχθηκε στη δημιουργία ενός υβριδικού περιβάλλοντος όπου η κατοίκηση και η εργασία συνυπάρχουν οργανικά.

Στόχος του νέου σχεδιασμού ήταν η διατήρηση της αίσθησης του ανοικτού, καθαρού χώρου της αρχικής κάτοψης, εισάγοντας ταυτόχρονα μια νέα ταυτότητα μέσα από το χρώμα, το φως και προσεκτικά μελετημένες υλικότητες. Το βαθύ μπλε χρώμα σε τοίχους και οροφή αποτέλεσε το βασικό συνθετικό εργαλείο, ένα χρωματικό πλαίσιο που ενοποιεί τους χώρους και μεταβάλλει διακριτικά την αντίληψη του εσωτερικού.

Σε συνδυασμό με ουδέτερες επιφάνειες και ένα συνεχές δάπεδο, επιτρέπει στο περιβάλλον να παραμένει ήρεμο και ευέλικτο, αλλά ταυτόχρονα έντονα αναγνωρίσιμο. Η ζώνη της κουζίνας, με τα μαύρα ντουλάπια, τα ξύλινα ράφια και τα δυναμικά κόκκινο-μπλε πλακίδια, λειτουργεί ως το συναισθηματικό κέντρο του έργου—οικείο, λειτουργικό και εκφραστικό.

“Τελικά, η ανακαίνιση επιδιώκει να δείξει πώς μια ελεγχόμενη σειρά παρεμβάσεων μπορεί να επαναπροσδιορίσει την ατμόσφαιρα και τη χρήση ενός χώρου”.

Μέσα από αντιθέσεις διαφάνειας και στιβαρότητας, ο χώρος μπορεί να υποστηρίξει τόσο την εργασία όσο και την καθημερινή ζωή. Πρόκειται για κατοικία και χώρο εργασίας, όχι ως δύο ξεχωριστές καταστάσεις, αλλά ως ένα συνεχές περιβάλλον διαμορφωμένο με πρόθεση και σχεδιασμό.

English description: In this renovation, a working space in Exarheia, Athens that was used as an architectural office, is reimagined by Nefelia Studio, as a flexible contemporary workspace, where color, light, and materiality compose a new architectural identity. The project “Home/Office Continuum”, transforms an aging interior into an open, bright environment that balances functionality with an expressive, almost cinematic atmosphere.

The design centers on a bold chromatic narrative. Deep ultramarine defines the ceilings and selected wall surfaces, visually expanding the space and creating a unifying band that guides movement. This saturated hue is juxtaposed with soft grey walls and a polished, continuous cement floor, allowing the intense surfaces to operate as spatial anchors rather than decorative accents.

In the main working area, a linear black kitchen becomes both a utilitarian element and a sculptural insert. Above it, oak cabinets introduce warmth and material tactility, while a striking red-and-blue ceramic backsplash introduces a rhythmic visual field—an element that shifts with light and movement. The tiles, with their blurred, almost digital patterning, bring a sense of motion to an otherwise minimal composition.

“Large openings along the façade allow natural light to flood the interior, softening the contrast between the saturated colors and the neutral shell. The restored window frames create a direct visual dialogue with the urban condition outside, making daylight an essential compositional material”.

The layout emphasizes fluidity. A translucent glass-block wall filters brightness into the interior rooms, offering privacy without sacrificing luminosity. Along the circulation corridor, a combination of matte surfaces, reflective glass partitions, and precise linear lighting heightens spatial depth and elongates perception.

The bathroom adopts a more monolithic material strategy. Oversized grey stone tiles and matte black fixtures create a restrained, almost atmospheric space, where the deep blue ceiling reappears as a chromatic echo, linking it visually to the rest of the project.

Throughout the renovation, the aim was to craft an environment that is simultaneously pragmatic and expressive—an adaptable workspace that celebrates the potential of color and material as architectural tools. The result is a space defined not by excess, but by the careful orchestration of contrasts: warm and cool, opaque and translucent, static and dynamic.
