English description: IQONA Architects, designed a private residence of 360 sqm, with basement and swimming pool, located in a newly built urban area in Dali. Their main design goal was to split of the building’s main volume into individual small volumes, ensuring larger surfaces to the south according to bioclimatic practices.
The project concerns an under construction private residence with basement and swimming pool, located in a newly built urban area in Dali. The shape, morphology and orientation of the plot partly determined the IQONA Architect’s proposal. The sloping and elongated shape of the plot essentially defined a path with alternating scenes (experiences).
“Following the geometry of the plot, the main volume was developed parallel to the north-south axis”.
This imperative movement led to the splitting of the main volume into individual small volumes, ensuring larger surfaces to the south according to bioclimatic practices.
“At the same time, the transition spaces between the individual volumes join the path to alternating scenes (experiences)”.
The owner’s demand for an increased sense of security and privacy is translated into a solid, minimalistic facade made of concrete. The white perforated metal elements complete the front elevation’s design and the feeling of security. At the same time, these perforated elements allow views from the house to the outside environment.
“Αlinear path accompanied by nature leads to the main entrance which is not visible from the road”.
The entrance is located to a central transitional space (core) with unobstructed views of the courtyard. This linear transitional space (core) divide common areas into separate zones. The living room, dining area and kitchen are on one side and the office with guest toilet on the other.
Following the same design approach as the ground floor, the central transitional space divides children’s bedrooms and the master bedroom into separate zones.
“The transitional area works as a floating bridge with unobstructed views of the courtyard and the hills”.
Fluid element completes the overall experience as it frames the living room and extends parallel to the kitchen and outdoor seating area. Large openings in the living room contribute to the abolition of boundaries and the unification of indoor and outdoor space.
