Το Ora D’Oro είναι ένα διώροφο ξενοδοχειακό συγκρότημα στις παρυφές της Χώρας της Κύθνου. Η προσέγγιση του αρχιτεκτονικού γραφείου The Hive Architects ήταν να δημιουργηθεί η συνθήκη του αιγιαλού κατά την Δύση του ηλίου, έχοντας ως κεντρική αφετηρία, τον βορειοδυτικό προσανατολισμό του οικοπέδου.

Αντλώντας έμπνευση από την κυκλαδίτικη πρωτεύουσα, σχεδιάστηκε ένα «χωριό» από δίκλινα δωμάτια με βάση τον λευκό σοβά, δημιουργώντας μια καμπυλόγραμμη ογκοπλασία, η οποία στρέφεται προς την κοινόχρηστη πισίνα, την «παραλία».

Η πρόθεση αυτή εκφράζεται μορφολογικά, καθώς λευκοί όγκοι σε ολίσθηση χαρίζουν ενδιαφέρουσες οπτικές φυγές, επιτρέποντας να κυριαρχεί το φως και η θέα σε όλους τους χώρους, ενώ παράλληλα διατηρείται η ιδιωτικότητα των επισκεπτών. Η είσοδος γίνεται από μια στοά που οδηγεί κατευθείαν στην αμμώδη πισίνα, χρησιμοποιώντας υλικότητες που προσπαθούν να παρομοιάσουν τον γιαλό των κυκλαδίτικων νησιών.

Τα προτεινόμενα υλικά επιχειρούν να εντάξουν το έργο στην αρχιτεκτονική του παραδοσιακού οικισμού της Χώρας. Για το λόγο αυτό, στις προσόψεις κυριαρχεί ο λευκός σοβάς και τα ανοιχτά γκρι ξύλινα κουφώματα. Στον εσωτερικό σχεδιασμό κυριαρχεί επίσης ο λευκός σοβάς στους τοίχους καθώς και στα εντοιχισμένα έπιπλα.

Η χρωματική παλέτα και η γενική αίσθηση για τον εσωτερικό σχεδιασμό των δωματίων ήταν το θερμό φως που προσδίδει το ηλιοβασίλεμα, κατά τη διάρκεια αυτού, η ένταση του φωτός διαχέεται ομοίως μέσα στην ατμόσφαιρα, προσφέροντας έναν ζεστό φωτισμό. Ορισμένες από τις αποχρώσεις που αποδίδουν τον ουρανό του ηλιοβασιλέματος χρησιμοποιήθηκαν για τα υλικά, τους ασβεστωμένους τοίχους και την εσωτερική διακόσμηση.

English description: Ora D’Oro is a two-storey boutique hotel of fourteen rooms, located a few kilometers outside the town of Chora in Kythnos Island. The Hive Architects’ approach was to create the feel of the seaside during golden hour for an inhabited landscape in the traditional Cycladic sense, taking inspiration from the island vernacular. Architects designed a ‘village’ of whitewashed double rooms within a curvilinear volume in front of the communal pool, the ‘paralia’. The volume has been ‘carved’ smooth by the waterfront and forms a sequence of curves and edges.

In order to emphasize the northwest orientation of the proposal architects have carefully designed each space to have unobstructed views of the sunset. This arrangement allows for light and view to dominate in all areas whilst guests’ privacy is also maintained.

This intention is expressed both morphologically, with the sliding of volumes as a way of interrupting visual contact, but also by private entrances and through private staircases that create sculptural building elements.

Entry is through a striking underpass that leads straight into the sandy poolside which emulates a magical seaside of the Cycladic islands. The materials proposed attempt to integrate the project into the architecture of the traditional settlement of Chora. For this reason, the facades are dominated by white plaster and light grey wooden frames. The interior design is also dominated by white plaster on the walls and built-in furniture.

The color palette and general feel for the internal design of the rooms has been Golden hour. During that time the light intensity is similarly diffused through the atmosphere, offering a warm blissful illumination. Some of the hues that render the sunset sky were used for the materials, limewashed walls and interior décor.
