Henry’s Restaurant, is situated on the newly refurbished Makariou Avenue, a bustling pedestrian-friendly street in the heart of Nicosia. To facilitate the new restaurant, an existing commercial building from the 1970s was substantially renovated; two commercial spaces were merged and mezzanine levels were partially demolished to create a spacious double-height hall filled with light.
Henry’s is inspired by the European bistro typology. It is an all-day restaurant that serves immaculately styled gourmet food, with an open kitchen that allows chefs and cooks to interact directly with the visitors, creating a dynamic dining experience.
The design of Henry’s restaurant by EKKY Studio Architects blends classic bistro elements with a paired-back contemporary aesthetic, creating a stunning environment that adapts to the time of day. At the back of the restaurant, an open kitchen acts as an internal facade, beautifully framing the theatrics of the kitchen.
The spacious central hall features a 10-meter bar and fixed sofa seating which organizes the space. A lounge area on the opposite end of the restaurant offers an intimate ambiance with a library and fireplace, and an outdoor seating area allows guests to enjoy the connection to the street, to see and be seen. The vast pergola that covers the outdoor space creates a strong street presence and draws in visitors from a distance.
“Timeless materials such as brass, terrazzo, and walnut panels are combined with custom-made furniture and aged mirror panels to offer an environment of restrained luxury”.
The color palette of green and beige creates a harmonious ambiance that is inviting at any time of the day. Art features specific to the space are seamlessly integrated into the overall design. These art pieces add a distinctive touch, further enhancing the dining experience for visitors. The space serves as a canvas, accommodating and showcasing the cuisine, and the art features while simultaneously creating a cohesive and visually captivating environment.
