English description: STEP architecture & design office designedto order by the owners, a two-story house with almost zero energy consumption in Cyprus, on a plot within the village of Tsada in Paphos District.
The house faces the view of the coastline of Paphos. The study is about the design of a house for a family of three on a plot with a southeast orientation. The house is designed on two levels, where the volume of the ground floor accommodates the common areas of the entrance, living room, kitchen and dining room in a single space.
“The first floor consists of three bedrooms with a shared bathroom and utility spaces”.
The main concern of the owners was the house to have almost zero energy consumption, something that will offer energy efficiency, comfort, economy and will be environmentally friendly. The Passive House can have thermal comfort all year-round while at the same time it will have minimal energy requirements.
“The load-bearing structure of the building was made of reinforced concrete and the masonry of conventional brick”.
The shell is insulated according to the specifications of the passive building, so during the winter, it retains the heat inside, while in the summer it prevents it from entering. Synthetic frames with similar specifications were installed at the openings to optimize the performance of the building and also, external shutters with opening blinds.
With this philosophy, the passive house uses up to 90% less energy for heating and cooling, so the operation of the building has a reduced cost for heating / cooling. The mechanical ventilation system with energy recovery installed, offers excellent quality atmosphere (since it does heat recovery and humidity control) and has very low energy requirements.
