English Description: Apartment renovation in Pasalimani, Piraeus, Greece, designed by Doriza Design
An apartment of an urban block of flats dating back in 1970 in Piraeus is fully renovated with a view to organizing and unifying the big number of elements that fragmented the place (the outline of the layout, the existence of three air shafts in the interior, allocation of spaces).
As a first plan, our basic choice was the organization of uses around two main axes that define, in turn, two distinctive units and which were formed through the necessary removal of internal partitions.
The horizontal axιs includes the public spaces of living and dining room and the vertical axis entails the most private spaces of the kitchen, the bedrooms and the bathrooms.
“In the cross-section of the two axes the transition from the public to the private zone takes place”.
The heavy sliding door constitutes itself an object limit through its scale and its material which makes its use significant in the place and presents the user as the co-creator of the form.
At the end of the vertical axis, the space of the kitchen is placed that is linked visually to the living area through α full glass window, making the preparation of food a kind of ceremony.
As a second plan, there is a sound idea on how the interior space can be organized and on how we can achieve a kind of order with secondary elements of furnishing and lighting elements which are repetitively used all over the place.
As a result, every piece installed fully justifies its existence and its role while the custom-made constructions are still more in favor of the identity of the place.
