English description: The current diploma thesis by Evgenina Aggelaki, Dimitris Stogiannos and Charitina Trikka revolves around the design of a climbing center in Nafplio, in a rocky landscape next to the sea, connected with an exterior existing natural climbing track on site.
An exterior gathering area is added as an extension to the main unit. The design includes a mild outdoor landscaping and an accommodation unit.
This juxtaposition of the two sides of Nafplio, the inner city and the sterile Akronafplia inspired students to occupy with this big linear pedestrian path. That connects them.
They decided to focus on the activity of climbing that occurs on the impressive rocks on the side of the coastal road, an activity that is highly active in the area.
The purpose was to express this introvert character of the town with the surrounding landscape, as a counterpoint with an extrovert relationship that a possible proposal would have with sea and nature, in order to redefine the “balance” in the area.
Free movement and wandering regardless of status at all levels was a key goal in the design to combine the special use of the intervention with its public character.
